David assumed the position of Chairman in the summer of 2023 and had a significant and lasting impact on the band. He was an active and supportive committee member, who made an effort to welcome and encourage new players.   

Prior to his committee role, David consistently contributed as a dedicated member of the band, always with his characteristic humour and enthusiasm. He seldom missed a concert and worked incredibly hard to continue playing despite his declining eyesight.   

In September 2025, David was presented with the Making Music President’s Award which recognises volunteers who have provided exceptional service to their music group. We could not think of a more deserving recipient for this award.

David was an inspiration and will be sorely missed by everyone at Merton Concert Band.
